A WasteWise Community

Did you know that over 65% of the 1.17 million tonnes of rubbish Auckland sends to landfill each year could have been recycled or composted?  Our local ‘Friends of Ambury Farm and Foreshore’ group, alongside Carol-Anne Armitage (Mangere Bridge Village Manager), wants to support Mangere Bridge to become an environmentally responsible ‘WasteWise’ community that works together to care for its people, streets, parks, village, farm, foreshore, harbour and mountain.

Reducing the rubbish we produce at home and in our community is good for our local environment and will decrease our contribution to landfill.  It will also save us money, with Auckland Council planning to introduce charges for the collection of this rubbish by 2015.

To find out more, look out for the WasteWise group at Ambury Farm Day, the local market and other community events over the next 12 months.  Please join us in making this an exciting opportunity for the Mangere Bridge community to find creative solutions that benefit us and our environment.
