World Record Gathering of Fairies – 11th Feb 2018

Mangere Bridge School played host to a fantastic event this month– an attempt on the world record for the most number of fairies gathered in one place!  The event was organised as a fundraiser by local group Fairy Steps for Ella, who’re fundraising  for life changing surgery for Mangere Bridge youngster Ella in St Louis, America.

All fairies needed a wand, wings and a tutu, and the local community came out in force to support Ella and her family. Our Friends of the Farm fairies were there with a small waste station, to support the event and to take the opportunity to engage with our local community.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t kind to us, and it teamed down all morning.  Due to the weather and the small amount of waste gathered, we didn’t collect data, but did get a chance to showcase our new flag and enjoy time with an enthusiastic helper Briar, whose main job was to keep the flag upright!

Although the gathering of 559 fairies wasn't enough to break the world record, it did manage to create a new world record- the largest gathering of fairies in a storm!  It was a most amazing day filled with community spirit, and we wish Ella and her family well on their journey.
